Dysautonomia
Dysautonomia is a medical condition that occurs when the autonomic nervous system (ANS) malfunctions. The autonomic nervous system is responsible for controlling the involuntary functions of the body, such as heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and breathing. When the ANS doesn't function correctly, it can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including dizziness, fainting, lightheadedness, nausea, fatigue, difficulty regulating body temperature, and more.
There are many different types of dysautonomia, each with its own specific set of symptoms and causes. Some common types include Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Neurocardiogenic Syncope (NCS), Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), and Pure Autonomic Failure (PAF).
Treatment for dysautonomia depends on the underlying cause and the specific symptoms experienced by the patient. In some cases, medications or lifestyle changes may be recommended to manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
At Desert Brain and Spine we work with the functional aspects of the nervous system, and see conditions like POTS, Dysautonomia, Syncope, and with all the symptoms described above. Please contact the office if you or someone you know is dealing with these chronic symptoms, so we can help.
